  • CAUSE
    • long periods ofhigh temperatures and humidity

    • buildup of thatch
  • PREVENTION
    • water lawn in the morning, if needed
    • water deeply less frequently
    • reduce thatch by using organic fertilizers
    • provide adequate lawn drainage
    • reseed with disease resistant grass seed (Turf Type Tall Fescue)
  • ORGANIC TREATMENT
    • use organic fertilizers 
    • lawn aeration for lawns with heavy thatch
    • change watering habits
    • address lawn drainage problems

 

DOG URINE - DEAD SPOTS (pets)

  • CAUSE
    • dead yellow area surrounded by a dark green ring
    • repeated exposure to dog urine which contains a high level of nitrogen, due to the break-down of protein in their diet
    • female dog urine due to squatting in one spot
  • PREVENTION
    • rotate outdoor dog areas
    • reseed with more resistant grass seed (Turf Type Tall Fescue)
  • ORGANIC TREATMENT
    • dilute the area with water
    • increase your dog's water intake

DOLLAR SPOT (fungus)

  • CAUSE
    • long periods of high temperatures and humidity
    • late spring through late autumn
    • low soil fertility
    • buildup of thatch

PINK PATCH & RED THREAD (fungus)

  • CAUSE

RUST (fungus)

    • soil test to check nutrient and fertility



SNOW MOLD (fungus)

  • CAUSE
    • heavy snow coverage

    • long grass blades under snow coverage
    • grass that has not gone dormant going into a wet winter
  • PREVENTION
    • mow short (1.5-2 inches) for the lawn mow of the season
